Bowen Therapy is...

A Structural, Muscular, and Nerve Rebalancing Technique done with the fingertips across muscles and connective tissue through light clothing. These moves access all systems of the body allowing nerve tissue to relax - fascia adhesions vanish - toxins are shed - circulation increases - and due to the dynamic nerve/energy pulse inherent only in "Bowen Moves", the body becomes more energized - rebalancing or reprogramming according to its own genetic blueprint of health.

When the therapist is done with a set of moves the client is given a break, this allows the body to focus on the areas individually and make the adjustments on its own. Generally, relief is immediate with no recurring pain. Bowen helps alleviate most injuries or conditions in a minimal number of treatments.

What is the origin of Bowen Therapy?

The Bowen therapeutic technique was developed in Gee long, Victoria, Australia, by Tom Bowen - completely independent of any other modality. It is not based on any Oriental, Occidental or Aboriginal theory or system. It is based on clear cut anatomy and an astute knowledge of how the body functions and its components interact.

Mr. Bowen operated his clinic from the early fifties to just before his death in 1982. At the height of his career, he was single-handedly treating over 13,000 patients a year and regularly opened his clinic free of charge to anyone in a wheelchair. Mr. Bowen considered his abilities "a gift from GOD".

Tom Bowen selected six men to observe his work and learn his technique. Each of these men represented a different approach to hands' on body work.

After Mr. Bowen's death in 1982, the Bowen technique was brought to North America where it was introduced at Auburn, California in late 1989. Most of the Bowen Therapy Training done in North America has been done in Auburn.
